About Us

Overview
Twelve years prior to founding TubeMaster, Inc., Cliff Johns founded VESCO Engineering, Inc. to provide a wide variety of technical services focused on measuring and analyzing electronic sensor data, evaluating for problems and providing corrective designs and remedies. In 2001, TubeMaster, Inc. was created and spun off from VESCO Engineering to focus exclusively on developing and implementing new and patentable technologies related to saving time and improving quality for catalyst-handling activities, as well as improving efficiencies at chemical, petrochemical and refinery plants world-wide.

Today, TubeMaster, Inc. is “Changing The Way The World Changes Catalyst” with our goal of being the first and best in world. Our premier technologies offer superior client value compared to present methods and we strive to further advance these technologies with continuous improvement and licensing agreements.

Our flagship and patented TubeMaster® System has revolutionized the manner in which pressure-drop measurements are made on catalyst-packed tubes especially in multi-tubular reactors in terms of unsurpassed speed and accuracy (10 tubes at one time). Also, our Automatic Blowdown System™ (ABS) for dust blowing and pig pushing has greatly improved dust blowing (10 tubes at one time) and the efficiency of pushing foam pigs, forcing foam plugs down each tube to swab them clean of dust.

In the chemical, petrochemical and refining industries where a tubular reactor or bank of reformer tubes loaded with catalyst generates between a few thousand dollars up to many thousand of dollars an hour in profit, and where efficient operation of each tube is dependant on the degree of its uniform packing density among all tubes, quality and speed in testing after catalyst loading is everything. When multi-tubular reactors were placed into broad use 30 years ago, the method of testing pressure-drop was relatively simple – one tube-at-a-time was tested often with poor accuracy, lots of human errors and few improvements in speed. TubeMaster, Inc. was the first to successfully transform these age-old testing problems and deliver significant cost savings for the catalyst user industry.

Today, TubeMaster, Inc. is the leading the way in global development of new technologies and products for the catalyst-packed tube industry having introduced four major innovations in just our first year and two more in the first quarter of 2004.

  • The TubeMaster® System’s patented equipment and software for its testing technologies allows each person to pressure-drop test (sometimes referred to as d/p testing) 10 tubes at one time using our Tube Test Device (TTD) with primarily single-button operation. All data is transmitted wirelessly to a highly integrated software program that analyzes monitors and records all pressure-drop tests progress and results. The TubeMaster® System’s speed allows testing to be completed by fewer people in much less time: from 4–20 people testing for 8–48 hours to just 1-4 people testing for 1–8 hours, at present, and perhaps even faster in the future.

  • Our Automatic Blowdown System™ (ABS) provides computer-controlled dust blowing equipment and software that, like the Tube Test Device (TTD), each person can blowdown ten tubes-at-once by pressing a single button. In fact, the ABS is so light and simple that one person can operate 2, 3 or 4 ABS at the same time!

  • We developed not one but two tools to handle corrections of tubes that are determined to be out specification using two versions of one List-to-Fix™ Tool. Our List-to-Fix™ Tool is a printed list of tubes that need correction listed by row number and tube number. Using the List-to-Fix™ means that you can skip sampling tubes to estimate the specification altogether and that the tubes that are to be corrected can be selected based on the dynamic analysis of all data for all tubes giving the client more flexibility. Never sample again! A printed List-to-Fix™ Tool is a simple list while our second tool, the Electronic List-to-Fix™ Tool, includes a laser and computer to properly locate the tubes that need correction. Never fix a good tube again!

  • Our newest innovation: Outage Loading Equipment™ (OLE’) provides more efficient loading for single-zoned catalysts and eliminates costly steps.

In addition to our focus on innovation, TubeMaster, Inc. is focused on quality – quality technologies and products, quality service and a quality experience for our clients. Our unsurpassed speed, as well as our astonishing safety record, is the result of our team’s high attention to detail up front, not as an afterthought. We strive to deliver a quality experience with the highest standards of professionalism in everything we do and always keep clients’ interests first. Our pledge is to “treat our clients’ reactors and catalyst-packed tubes as if we owned them ourselves”.
